How can I be a supportive caregiver?

Often caregivers are uncertain they can do a good job of providing care. St. Anthony's Hospice has several tools that will help the caregiver become comfortable and competent in this unfamiliar role. St. Anthony's Hospice provides support to primary caregivers. If you are caring for an ill loved one at home, the following are "six steps" that may help.

Work and communicate effectively with the patient

Support the patient's spiritual concerns

Help to resolve the patient's unfinished business

Work with health professionals

Work with family and friends

Take care of your own needs and feelings
